Psalm 95:6-7

Psalm 95:6-7
O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.
7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,
God created man and He deserves our respect; however, man sometimes forgets that and we think we are the one in charge; we are the ones responsible for our being.  Most of us strive to be in control.  We like to think we are the one responsible for our success and sometimes our failures.  Oh, we may get help from time to time, but we don’t like to admit we have to submit to someone else.   We are independent, we don’t want nor do we take handouts; we want to earn our way.  While that is good when it comes to exercising our freedoms here in America, it is not good if we exclude God.
God wants us to be dependent – on HIM; He wants us to submit to Him in all our ways.  He wants recognition for who He is and what He has done.  He created us with free wills, knowing that it would be a challenge for most of us, but it does not lessen the obligation we have to worship Him and give Him the honor due Him.
It is hard to demean ourselves, to bow to a higher authority if we do not accept that God is God.  If we try to place Him on the shelf and communicate with Him only when WE want we cannot serve Him.  By doing so we have placed ourselves above God and in our minds we think we do not need to spend time in worshipping Him, let alone bowing down before Him.  That god is smaller than us and dependent on our recognition, not the other way around.
Fortunately, for us, God is magnanimous and very patient.  If He had my tolerance for mistakes or was anywhere near as easily frustrated, I would have been condemned a very long time ago.  Instead He reminds me as I read His Word, hear it preached, read commentaries and devotional guides; in conversations with friends and sometimes strangers, and even a chance reading of something that may have the appearance of nothing Godly about it He is God.  He created me, yes he used my father and mother, but that does not change things.  He has pulled me through many trials, stood by me in desperate times and guided me through innumerable challenges.
But God is God, with a capital G.  He deserves my worship and obedience.  He has earned the right to instruct me and demand that I bow down to Him.  We give deference to many people all the time; some have earned it by their actions or their positions of authority.  Some demean themselves in front of or to others to gain favors from that person.   How much more important it is to give admiration and reverence to our God who not only created us, but sent His Son to insure our admittance into heaven.
