Sun is trying to burn off the clouds in our neck of the woods; it succeeds at time, which is encouraging.  AND it is supposed to warm up the next few days, which should help in melting the snow.
Yesterday I talked about how Carla had our fourth child with Dr. Mills’ some comments included, but that wasn’t the only interesting ones.
Now, I would like to tell you another story about Dr. Mills, how he met Carla’s father.
Dad was born in the Territory of Oklahoma, eventually he came out to Oregon where he met Carla’s mom and married her.  They settled in Redmond, Oregon where they raised their son and five daughters.
He and mom wanted to do some traveling outside the country which means, of course, that he had to get a passport.  Unfortunately the court house in his small community burned down and along with it, his certificate of birth.
He was told that if he got someone who knew he had been born there and would vouch to that effect he could still get the passport.
His town had an annual get together, basically a reunion, where people would celebrate old acquaintances, etc.  He had not been back for fifty years, but thought he might be able to find someone who knew his family and him back when.
Dad and mom went out to the celebration.  One of the people that was there was the teacher who taught him in first grade.  She remembered him well – Carla always wondered why she remembered him that well..... and the teacher would vouch for him.
While they were talking she learned that he lived in the northwest, somehow she thought it was Washington, but she said her son was from that area and introduced them.
Turned out the son was from The Dalles.  Dad said he had a daughter living up there.  The son asked him who she was, Dad said, ‘oh, you wouldn’t know her.’  The son said, ‘you would be surprised how many women I know in The Dalles.’
Dad said, ‘well her husband is a police officer.’
The son said, ‘Oh, you mean Carla Labrousse.’
Dad, of course, couldn’t believe it.
The son, Dr. Mills, then told him what he did for a living.
Dr. Mills probably delivered at least 90% of the babies in The Dalles area for several decades.  (While he was her doctor for four of her pregnancies, he was only there for two deliveries – but that is another couple of stories.)
What I found interesting was that I heard the stories from both men, several months apart and their recollection was almost identical.
Dad, over the kitchen table; Dr. Mills over Carla as they were waiting for the birth of Teresa.
We miss them both.

Proverbs 17:27-28 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
This is another wise saying that I should have been using through the years.  I DO, in case you haven’t noticed, tend to not hold my peace.
Doing better now, but my blood pressure sure suffers from it.
We have to consider what we are saying and why, all too frequently I haven’t and either caused problems with others or myself.
Fortunately, God and most people, are forgiving.
Later, Art (-:
