On December 10, 1965, Carla and
I became one. We were married in a
private ceremony in our small Foursquare Church – we did not have a large
wedding as my parents chose not to be a part of it.
A good friend, Bill, that I had
met at college (and who later married a good friend of Carla’s from the first
grade on,) started giving me a bad time earlier in the day. He asked when Carla and I would be getting
married.
He then went on to say that this
weekend would be a good time. I said
nothing.
Had Norm, my future brother in
law, not been my best man, I would have asked Bill.
Just got off the phone to Bill,
hadn’t talked to him in a while, but Carla wanted me to call and tell him it was
all his fault. It was an enjoyable
call.
Bill and Linda are the kind of
friends that it may have been a few years since you have seen them, but you feel
as if you have never left when you do.
Good people.
We had an early anniversary
dinner and came back home where Carla is now decorating – we always waited until
around the 10th to put the tree up, still do.
Hosea
1:8 Yet the number of the children of Israel
shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it
shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my
people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living
God.
As I was
praying this morning, I got to thinking about man and his relationship with
God.
When God gave
these words to the Jewish people, He also was declaring that we too, would
become the children of Abraham through His Son, Jesus.
Galatians 3:7-8 Know ye therefore
that they which are of faith, the same are the children of
Abraham.
8 And the scripture,
foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the
gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be
blessed.
1 Timothy
1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of
all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners;
How many of us are there? How do we compare with God? God is so large, yet, indescribable.
We are like one grain of sand
within all the universe and still we are nothing compared to our God.
Mathew 10:29-30 Are not two sparrows
sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your
Father.
30 But the very hairs of
your head are all numbered.
How could He possible care for
us, let alone want to be involved in our lives?
How can He possibly know what each person as an individual is doing,
among hundreds of millions of Christians, not to mention the billions that are
not?
How?
I often get wrapped up in my
little world. Unless something is
happening, I don’t think about the numbers of people in New York or London or
Paris, or any of the other major cities not to mention those that are in small
communities and living in the countryside – ALL over the world.
Every minute, nay, every second
tens, even hundreds, of thousands Christian are praying to God. Blessing Him, praising Him, petitioning Him
for miracles, healing, protection and all manner of things that they need.
How can He possible listen and
respond to each request?
Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are
not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are
higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts
than your thoughts.
It is something that is beyond
our ability to understand, yet we are given small indications. We feel the Holy Spirit’s urge to pray for
someone who is in need of God’s help – days, months even years later we meet or
hear of that person who we prayed for and how they were victorious.
God works through us to bless
others, even if we do not understand how or why at the time.
I remember when the Keyser’s
left for Nigeria, Shirley received an article of clothing, shoes I think, for
her trip. She didn’t need the item and
almost left them in the states – however several months later in the climate
they were in that article(s) of clothing was preciously what she needed.
God knew her needs ahead of time
and made arrangements for her needs to be met.
It is hard to comprehend
God. But, we see His creation and proof
of His existence every time we look at a tree, look at a mountain, or animals or
birds or watch our hands perform a task.
Yes, it takes faith, but the
faith is encouraged by His Word and the truths therein – and the confirmation of
both His existence and His love as we live our lives for Him.
Later, Art :-)
