Tired, canned 22 pints of salsa today, and one more for
eating tonight. A lot of work – 30 cups
of chopped up tomatoes. 18 cups of
chopped up peppers. 12 cups of chopped
up onions. I started out with a food
processor but it went south on me, so I thought I would have to hand chop all
those veggies – not an easy task. I had
checked with the company about replacement parts for my processor, they didn’t
have some of it, BUT, they would sell me a new one for a good price, plus
postage and handling of course. Carla
went down to BiMart and bought the exact same thing I had been using and what
they were going to give me a good deal on for 33% less – and I had it today
with no postage. Pays to check.
I will process more tomatoes tomorrow, (have about 30 -35
pounds picked) if I can get this tired ole body out of the bed, probably do pizza
sauce tomorrow. Carla’s garden is
producing a lot of vegetables for us to use.
However, we were discussing how much easier it is to just go
down and by a jar of salsa, and probably cheaper when you add up the cost of
water – and then the labor, of course.
But no preservatives except for the lemon and lime juices, and the
processing of course. Plus the satisfaction
of doing it yourself.
13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Obviously the temple didn’t start out that way. It began as just what Christ said, a house of
prayer. Who knows when this
changed. Probably when someone came to
the temple but didn’t have an offering and someone sold them an animal. It wouldn’t take long before some enterprising
individuals realized there was a profit to be made and they were, after all,
helping others obtain an animal free of blemish. Undoubtedly it started outside, but slowly
crept its way into the foyer and then on into the temple.
I understand that some took advantage of their positions to
determine what was a pure sacrifice and what was not. If they determined your dove or lamb was
blemished, then they had one you could buy instead. So more and more animals were found to be
unsuitable, and the den of thieves were enjoying a good living – at the expense
of the people of God.
Jesus didn’t approve.
And He went in and started a fracas.
I imagine there was plenty of excitement that day, and while some may
have disapproved, those who were sincerely trying to worship God were
appreciative. I doubt that these people
returned anytime soon. – and if they did
it was at the blessing of the priests, who were probably involved in the
schemes in the first place.
And Jesus can do the same thing for us:
1 John 1:7 But
if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with
another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1
Corinthians 6:19-20 What?
know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
I envision Christ coming into our hearts with reassurance to our Spirit with love and compassion – then chasing those ‘demons’ we call sins out of our soul, just as He chased the money changers from the temple, so we can be completely clean. Once we have accepted Christ He wipes our sins away and we are free of them.
However, we must always remember that satan is just around the corner, doing what he can to prepare traps for us. We are the ones that invited him into our lives, Christ chased him out, so now it is up to us to keep him out.
Later, Art :-)
