Sorry it has taken so long to let you know how I am
doing. We just got back from the doctor and I am doing
‘okay.’
Still having a bit of trouble focusing from the
procedure and medications – which I am now off – so hope to be able to put
together some cognizant e-mails in the very near future.
Until
today it has been difficult for me to work on the computer for any length of
time – and even this will be short. I
have to use the television as my monitor and it tends to tire my eyes out
quickly – much more than the computer monitor.
That plus my reduced ability to concentrate has me a bit
frustrated.
I will be undergoing another procedure in the next
month or so – this is not a life threatening situation, but a necessary
process. It is throwing a monkey wrench into my plans –
especially this Spring when we need to get the garden and property cleaned up,
planted, etc. As of now I can’t lift anything over 15 pounds for at least
another 4 weeks and it will be even longer now – well into summer it looks
like.
I really do appreciate your continued prayers, we know
that God can perform healings. I also know that He is working through all this
to His Glory. It has given me several opportunities to witness of His love and
guidance. Art :-)
Leviticus 5:5-8 And it shall be, when he shall be guilty
in one of these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that
thing:
6
And
he shall bring his trespass offering unto the Lord for his sin which he hath
sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a kid of the goats, for a sin
offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his
sin.
7
And
if he be not able to bring a lamb, then he shall bring for his trespass, which
he hath committed, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, unto the Lord; one for a sin offering, and
the other for a burnt offering.
8
And
he shall bring them unto the priest, who shall offer that which is for the sin
offering first, and wring off his head from his neck, but shall not divide it
asunder:
I was watching a news story the
other day and it showed a man killing a steer by chopping off his head. Around him lay dozens of dead steers and the
story said something about over 600 were to be slain to be used as sacrifices
for whatever religion it was showing.
I thought to myself, that it was
a lot of animals, there had to be a lot of blood and the way the meat was to be
processed must take dozens of people, if not hundreds.
As I was reading the book of
Leviticus concerning the sacrifices and the very deliberate procedures to be
used I started thinking. I had just
taken for granted, without contemplation, that the sacrifices were required and
done, but it had to be an incredible feat of organization.
Aaron was the High Priest, at
the time of the writing of this portion of Leviticus he had four sons, two of
which were killed for by God for their sins.
It doesn’t say how many grandsons’ he had, nor how old they were, but
eventually they too would be eligible to be priests.
I am not sure where to go to
answer the following questions, hopefully one of you can share your knowledge
with me on either the answers or where I might find them:
When Moses took the Hebrews out
of Egypt they numbered about 600,000 MEN – not counting women and children.
When Moses was given the
commands on how to offer sacrifices and for what, each person was to bring a
something to the priests to be offered as a sacrifice.
Was sacrifice sufficient for the
family, or did each one have to bring a sacrificial animal?
Did that include everyone, or
just the men?
If it is just for the men, how
old were they when they must participate in the sacrifice?
How many sacrifices were
performed? (There had to be hundreds of
thousands from what I am reading.)
How many altars were there do
all of this?
Did the priests have assistance
in handling the animal waste that had to be disposed of out of the area?
I have always enjoyed logistics,
I was good at it, but I don’t know where or how to think this would have been
done, the sheer numbers are staggering.
Any light you might share on
this would be appreciated.
