Tomorrow, at 1045 PDT, Steven will be preaching a sermon at
the Abernathy Assembly of God church, just west of Longview, Washington, where
he has applied to be their Pastor.
This is one of the final processes before they make a decision
on whether to offer him the Pastor’s position – or not.
Obviously, he wants to be in the will of God. And he fills
this is it, but it has to be confirmed by the congregation.
We ask your prayers for the process, that his sermon will
touch lives and that the Holy Spirit will bless the message and the
process.
Having done some cursory review, this little church appears to
be a strong congregation. In be past 20 or so years they have had but two
Pastors, the one stepping down is doing so for health reason.
To me, it appears to be a good match for both Steven, his
family AND the church.
Choosing a Pastor is a soul searching duty for the
congregation. Not like Gary and I used to do when we hired an applicant; but
much is the same in that we wanted to get the right match, we did a thorough
back ground check and we thought long and hard.
Not all applicants were a good match for us and even though a
minister may have a solid relationship with God, it doesn’t mean he fits every
church.
Gotta admit I am a bit nervous, the congregation has taken a
great deal of time in finding their next Pastor and he, of course, isn’t the
only one considered.
But we are impressed with the fact they are going very slowly
to insure they make the right decision. It will be at least a week before he
hears one way or another, they do not want to make a snap decision, they will be
praying over it – and I will let you know what happens.
Thank you, Art :-)
